Aniseed is the fruit of the annual anise plant of the parsley family (Umbelliferae). It grows up to 60cm in height and is umbelliferous in appearance with leaves varying in shape from heart-shaped to feathery. The fruits are covered with short hairs and each contains two dark seeds with light ribs.

Anise was originally native to the Middle East and is now been cultivated in all parts of the world like the USA, Europe and, North America. It can also treat respiratory issues and the common cold. Its licorice-like smell is used in aromatherapy to treat depression and anxiety. It has been used to calm the nerves and give a soothing effect.
